Mom’s -Older and Wiser
More and more older women are becoming Mom’s for the first time. Mom’s over the age of 40 comprise the fastest growing age segment of women having babies.
I had a daughter at age 38, and another daughter at age 42, and another daughter at age 43. I’m 44 now. I guess that makes me an “older mom”. But I’m not sure I like that label, no matter how accurate. I have always thought that age was a state of mind. If you think you are old, you are and if you think you are young you are. I have always thought I was young, so I must be. I don’t have any trouble keeping up with my 3 little girls. I have plenty of energy. I’m fine.
And there are some definite benefits to having children at an older age. I am much smarter now than I was in my 20’s. I had a son at age 22 (so I was a “younger mom” also, been there, too!). I am a much more patient, smart, and wise Mom now in my 40’s than when I was in my 20’s. I have lived and learned and grown. I know what is truly important in life now. Much more so than I did in my 20’s. I consider my girls to be lucky to have a mom with more wisdom and insight on life.
So, I may be an “older mom” but don’t call me that. I am definitely a “Wiser Mom”! And even though my son could make me a “grandma” any day, I am happy and content and it will just add to the joy in my life!
