Post-Partum Depression

Post birth is significantly higher and the change significantly more severe, which is likely to induce post-partum depression especially if the woman is in a high risk category. When a woman feels overwhelmed by the baby and her new responsibilities or experiences feelings of loss regarding her figure, attractiveness, or past life, then the new mother may also be at risk for post-partum depression.

How to detect depression after birth? Child’s doctor, Shoshanna Bennett, PhD, said that there are some early symptoms. There is no such a prospective mother who is immune and there is no special type of woman who is exposed to depression after giving birth. Still, if you experience the following symptoms, you may be experiencing depression after the birth:

- Have a personal history or family members of post-partum depression
- Had a post-depression from the previous birth.
- Having pain PMS (Pre menstrual Syndrome) that severe
- Changes in mood as a negative response from the contraceptive pill
- Feeling extremely isolated
- There is no encouragement from the spouse
- She has a history of emotional trauma

Even if you have not experienced none of these symptoms, it is a good idea if you keep doing precaution before the birth of a baby. Here are precautions you can do before the depression after the birth occurred:

1. Set routine schedule. Discuss carefully with your partner, how you will handle the baby awakened at night. Create a schedule alternative, who will handle Monday night, Tuesday night, and more. Or take turn on each night. The new mother should also try to avoid becoming depressed by napping when the baby does in order to catch up on sleep and feel rested.

2. Make sure the mother is healthy. Maintain that healthy eating is the key, so, continue consuming healthy food after giving birth. Do some sports. If you don’t have the time, hold the baby while walking is also sufficient. Consider to add a fish oil omega-3 supplements as vitamins for you.

3. The support from the family and friends is important. There should be a reinforcement to help keep you feel not alone. New mothers should not expect to handle all the responsibilities of cleaning, cooking and child care alone. Ask for help or hire help if possible.

4. Nursing research methods. Find out about counseling, medical care, or natural and alternative healing to help you overcome the depression after the birth before it actually happened. Group and individual therapies are good ways to share your feelings with other new moms and realize there is nothing wrong with you if you have post-partum depression.

Depression, post-birth (postpartum depression) are not things that can be considered inconsequential. Depression can be dangerous to the mother and the baby. Its arrival cannot be predicted and may occur immediately after birth, but can also be appeared after a few months.
